UNC desperate, much?

As we reported earlier of the many travels of John Calipari, UNC head coach Roy Williams was taking some recruiting visits of his own. Known as two of the most premier college basketball programs in history, the ‘Cats and the Heels always seem to be sharing the interest of high profile recruits. This specific recruit was able to see both coaches within hours of each other.
Each coach has a plan of action when they go in and speak with a recruit. They will try nearly anything and everything to convince the young man and his family that the school they represent is the best spot for their talents. Kentucky has the last two #1 NBA Draft picks, fresh off of a National Championship, and is the winningest program in college basketball history. North Carolina has Michael Jordan, an academic scandal, and in the midst of another internal investigation regarding the misuse of travel expenses. The Michael Jordan thing is impressive, everything else just makes you shake your head.
UNC head coach Roy Williams knew that he would be following UK head coach John Calipari into the home of Texas sensation Julius Randle. Randle has always been reported to be very interested in the Wildcats, and why not? Julius was reportedly impressed with Calipari’s new 2012 National Championship ring, and Roy’s are not as shiny anymore. So how could Roy Williams “one-up” Calipari?
Not only did Roy try to show off his own championship rings, he brought a case of 30! A vast collection of conference championship rings, Final Four rings, and probably his wedding ring too. Perhaps the most impressive piece of the collection for Randle, was Roy’s possession of Michael Jordan’s 1992 Chicago Bulls NBA Championship ring. Jordan reportedly gave it to UNC to show young kids where their hard work could take them.
Personally, the case of 30 rings would seem just a bit over the top for me. The Michael Jordan ring and a couple of championship rings would have been impressive enough. Because of the recent troubles in Chapel Hill, does Roy Williams feel the need to shine all of his bling to impress the recruits? Roy needs 30, Cal just needs 1.
