Andrew and Aaron Harrison are joining Derek Willis in Lexington come 2013. With both players being top-5 recruits, this could set up another monster class for John Calipari. It seemed that nobody really knew where they were going to go. With less than 30 minutes before their announcement, many college sports enthusiasts felt like you could just toss a coin. A story didn’t leak, their father didn’t tell, and you had every recruiting analyst in the country afraid to make a solid pick.
With the publicity swirling about Maryland, the Under Armour brand, their dad confirming and denying reports, this recruitment has been quite entertaining to follow. There was even a report of someone seeing Aaron Harrison Sr. in Lexington today. It’s amazing how both of these young high schoolers have set the media ablaze with their every move. Now that it’s all over, I’m glad they will be wearing “Kentucky” across the chest.
With Maryland getting to visit the twins the day before their announcement, one had to wonder how much thought went into going to Kentucky, or Maryland. Their dad seemed to want his boys to go to the latter, and play for head coach Mark Turgeon. Turgeon and their father have a long standing relationship from way back when Turgeon was still the coach at Texas A&M. Maryland had the coach, the brand, and the family on their side and still could not close the deal over the Kentucky Wildcats. This has to be one of the most solid arguments that can be made for John Calipari. The man is a strait-up beast recruiter and coach.
Who’s next to join the Harrison’s? Many feel that James Young will be next in line to become a ‘Cat. Stay tuned for that and others. Now that two big recruiting dominoes have fell, one must wonder how much longer before the others begin to pull the trigger. Welcome to the BBN, Andrew and Aaron Harrison!
