Can it get any worse? Jinx.

Kentucky football head coach Joker Phillips had to get very defensive today when he spoke with the media. Floating through the air was the question of whether his job is at stake and how he really feels about it. Of course, he blows it off as nothing but hot air coming from the media. He’s been here before, playing on some really bad Kentucky teams and having successful seasons regardless. He says “We’re fine, we’ve been here before.” Well yes, we have been here before. I always thought that was part of the problem.
Joker defended his position with the program by saying they are playing with 72 freshmen and sophomores. In retrospect, Florida roughly has around 65 of those same kind of players themselves. We won’t pick between apples and oranges here, because I’m sure you know where I’m going with this. The media even asked the players if they thought about playing to “save Joker’s job” the majority consensus was no. They don’t really talk about it, so that’s that. One senior went as far as to say they want to get things right, even if Joker is going to be around next year or not.
With UK football, I hope nobody ever said it can’t get any worse than this. Three Kentucky football players were charged with possession of marajuana two days before the game with Western Kentucky. Oops, it just got a little worse. Raymond Sanders and Bookie Cobbins are active players on the roster who were associated with the drugs. Another player, Marcus Caffey is already suspended for the entire season due to academic issues. When asked if Caffey was in the proverbial dog house, Joker replied “We don’t have a dog house, we have a cat house.” Okay…? All three players will have a court appearance on the first of October, and both active players will be active against Florida after sitting out against Western Kentucky.
Speaking of those Florida Gators, the football ‘Cats will be traveling down to Gainesville to battle on Sept. 22nd. The Gators are supposedly “down” for their standards. After recently dispatching Texas A&M and Tennessee on the road, Florida looks to be able to stick their nose in the race for the SEC East crown. During Joker’s press conference, he was notified that his ‘Cats have been outscored by Florida 94-3 in the first quarter over the last four meetings. He had nothing to say but “wow”, and that’s all I can say too.
Remember in the beginning of the season when reports came out about football attendance being “down”? If you happened to be watching the Western Kentucky game on ESPNU, the wideshots of a very empty upper-deck was painful to see. The current attendance rate is on pace to be the lowest since 1996. Yikes.
CB Cartier Rice (thigh bruise), RB CoShik Williams (hip), LT Darrian Miller (ankle) are day to day. LB Josh Forrest is doubtful to play against Florida. After a tremendous performance against WKU, Freshman WR Demarcus Sweat is reportedly working himself into a starting spot, possibly as early as this coming week. Sweat scored a touchdown and returned four kickoffs, his longest being a 51-yarder. Here’s looking forward ‘Cats fans, it can’t get any worse from here, can it? Maybe I shouldn’t say that.
