Perhaps the most mysterious recruit that has been in the news related to Kentucky basketball since before John Calipari took over as head coach. His sightings have been compared to the rumors of Big Foot. Even a google search could not find this guy until very recently. His name is Tony Trocha, and he may be coming to Lexington.
Trocha is a 6’10” Columbian center that defines the world “lanky”. In a world where social media can make you famous just by being good at basketball, has somehow overlooked Trocha. There was news floating around that he had recieved a Kentucky offer, then the questions of whether he would qualify. Next, he would supposedly classify to the 2013 class. Now, he’s completed all his high school requirements and plans to be on a college campus in December of this year.
At 6’10”, a skill set compared to Anthony Davis, and a commitment to Kentucky would be icing on the cake of another astounding recruiting class for 2012. Trocha would fill a void on the front-line for the Wildcats. He could stand along side of Nerlens Noel and Wille Cauley-Stein and create one of the best shot blocking front-lines in recent memory. Let’s not forget about 6’9” sharp shooter Kyle Wiltjer that is constantly developing his low post game and learning how to use his crafty style of play. That front-line could be Strait-up scary!
Only time will tell whether or not Tony Trocha will be in a Wildcat uniform. How he will be able to adjust to the bright lights of Kentucky basketball, academics, and if he can be a solid contributor will be another project for the coaching staff. As I said about Nerlens Noel, Trocha will be a work in progress. I certainly don’t mind having our top notch coaching staff molding him into another great Wildcat.
